It states ‘To the Noblemen and gentlemen of the county of Lancaster. This view of Lancaster Castle is inscribed by William Byrne and Thomas Hearne. Published on the 1 Aug 1778.’ Thomas Hearne was an English landscape painter, engraver and illustrator.
